News Summary

An Indianapolis man has been charged with murder following the shooting death of Jasmine Haywood. The incident, involving gunfire and a missing cellphone, took place in Fort Wayne. Witnesses reported being held hostage and seeing the suspect fire the weapon, with evidence linking him to the crime scene and a firearm. The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading to the tragic death and identify all involved parties.

Indianapolis – Antres Damon Holliness-Ransom, a 28-year-old man from Indianapolis, has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 28-year-old Jasmine Haywood. The charge follows the discovery of Haywood’s body in an apartment on Schele Avenue in Fort Wayne on October 17, just before midnight.

Police found Haywood lying on the bedroom floor with a gunshot wound to her forehead and significant facial injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined that lividity found during their examination indicated that Haywood had likely died one to three hours prior to the time her body was discovered.

During the investigation, authorities conducted a search of the apartment where Haywood was found and located blood and tissue in a drawer near a shell casing. They noted that while a phone charger was present, Haywood’s cellphone, which had been confirmed by surveillance footage to be in her possession earlier that day, was missing.

A witness contacted Detective Darrin Strayer, stating that individuals involved in the incident had held them and Haywood at gunpoint. The witness reported that they were compelled to remain in the apartment without the option to leave. They also mentioned that Haywood’s death was being misrepresented as a suicide.

The witness recounted that two men pistol-whipped Haywood in connection to a debt before she was shot. An autopsy determined that Haywood died from a single gunshot wound, but officials noted it was initially uncertain whether the death was a homicide or suicide until further investigation could be conducted.

Another witness provided police with Haywood’s cellphone number and later reported receiving threatening calls connected to the situation. This witness identified Holliness-Ransom as the shooter after allegedly witnessing him firing the weapon that killed Haywood.

Investigators traced a Glock 48 firearm to a friend of Holliness-Ransom, noting it had been purchased at a New Haven pawn shop a month prior to the incident. The friend stated that Holliness-Ransom had been staying with him for approximately three weeks leading up to Haywood’s death and reported that his gun and other firearms were missing the morning after the shooting incident.

Additionally, Holliness-Ransom’s vehicle, a blue 2012 Chevrolet Cruz, was captured on surveillance footage near the location of the murder around the time it occurred. Data from cellphone records indicated that both Holliness-Ransom’s and Haywood’s phones moved together after the vehicle left the area of the crime.

Holliness-Ransom has been formally charged with murder and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. As of now, no additional charges have been publicly filed in connection with this investigation.

The case continues to unfold, with authorities focusing on piecing together the events that led to Haywood’s tragic death and identifying all parties involved.
