Reports reveal that police had been summoned to this specific location over 40 times in the past four years to address various incidents, including assaults, stabbings, and drug-related activities. Community leaders, such as Debbie Conway, president of the Bean Creek Neighborhood Association, confirmed that efforts are being made to tackle problems at the site, including the dismantling of an aged garage and trailer.
The IMPD has called on anyone possessing information or video evidence pertinent to the incident to come forward and contact the police or Crime Stoppers.
The second shooting, also leading to a loss of life, was tied to an alleged road rage incident, resulting in a murder charge against 23-year-old Deborah Benefiel. This altercation began when the victim, Kentrell Settles, honked his horn at Benefiel’s vehicle, which escalated into her allegedly shooting into Settles’ car, fatally striking him while he was stopped at a red light on 38th Street and Georgetown.
Benefiel was apprehended by police within hours following the shooting, utilizing license plate readers to track down her vehicle. Although she declined to speak with police after the incident, she was recognized as the shooter by the victim’s girlfriend. Prior to this tragic event, Benefiel had no prior criminal history and is currently being held without bond while awaiting her trial.
